"Rotary - for A&P""

Pencil, 12 x 9"

I was a stock-boy at the A&P in my home town for a few summers bridging high school and college. We used rotary price changers like this to mark prices on items in a dark blue ink. I could always tell a stock-boy by the blue ink stain in the back pocket of their jeans, where we invariably stuck our rotaries when we needed both hands free.  This preliminary sketch was for a proposed egg tempera painting that never happened.
