"Sandy Creek, NY"
August, 2008
Watercolor; 14 x 20"

My daughter, her husband, my son and I have made a few trips to upstate New York to the eastern shore of Lake Ontario to do family history research on my mother's side. We've tramped through cemeteries in Ellisburg, Adams, and Sandy Creek, among others, tracking down the final resting places of eighteenth and nineteenth century ancestors named Weed, Chamberlain and Boomer. I discovered this small child's grave slowly being folded into the trunk of the tree in the cemetery in Sandy Creek.  For more on my daughter's genealogical research, you can go here.
